This morning at 9:47 a.m., the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, sorrowfully announced the death of Pope Francis with the following words:

“Dear brothers and sisters,
It is with deep sorrow that I must announce the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

“This morning at 7:35 a.m., the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the Father’s house. He had dedicated his entire life to the Lord and to the service of His Church.

“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love — especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized.

“In deep gratitude for the example he gave as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we entrust the soul of Pope Francis to the infinitely merciful love of the Triune God.”
