O Most Holy Theotokos, Mary, Mother of God and our Mother,
With sorrowful yet trusting hearts, we turn to you on this solemn day when our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has passed from this earthly life.
We entrust his soul into your maternal hands. As you stood at the foot of the Cross, stand now before the throne of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and intercede for Pope Francis. May Christ, the Merciful Judge, welcome him into the eternal light and peace of the Heavenly Kingdom, and grant him the reward of faithful service to the Gospel and the Church.
We thank God for the years of his ministry: for his love for the poor, his shepherd’s heart, and his witness to Christ. Console the flock he shepherded, O Virgin Mother, and keep us united in the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic faith.
Mother of the Church (Mater Ecclesiae), guide the hearts and minds of the cardinals gathered to elect a new successor of St. Peter. Through your intercession, may the Holy Spirit descend upon them with wisdom, courage, and unity. Protect the Church in this time of transition and trial. Shelter us under your mantle.
Virgin Most Faithful, be our refuge and our sure hope. Lead us always to your Son, the only Savior of the world.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
